On 14th April, Autodesk released their 2022 product version for their Civil Engineering Software. This year’s new release of Autodesk’s Civil 3D includes improvements in two main areas as well as some minor upgrades to previous features. In this article we are going to look at an overview of these new features and updates. Connected Alignments: In previous versions of Civil 3D, we were very limited when it came to the creation of connected alignments as there were no options to select or modify the curve type. This year Autodesk have added the ability to set a curve group type with a wide range of curve groups available. We are also able to offset the connected alignment which was not possible in previous versions of this Civil Engineering Software. With the addition of a handy preview button, you can see the connected alignment whilst the dialog box remains open, which allows us to visualise the design and make amendments depending on the preview. Civil 3D now includes an ‘auto-fit’ feature that will automatically adjust the parameters to create a solution for the selected curve type. There have also been some minor improvements to the choice of curve when it comes to the connected profile - we can now choose between a ‘parabola’ and a ‘circular curve’ profile curve type. Alignments: The second main area of improvement this year has come in the selection of curve group types when creating alignments. Three new curve group types have been added which are useful when joining to or from an existing curve. o Free Reverse Spiral-Curve-Spiral-Spiral can be used when moving from a tangent to a curve. o Free Reverse Spiral-Spiral-Curve-Spiral can be used when moving from a curve to a tangent. o Free Reverse Spiral-Spiral-Curve-Spiral-Spiral can be used when moving between two curves. Autodesk has included a command to convert the curve group into individual entities that will have fixed geometry to assist users of previous versions of Civil 3D who may struggle to edit the new curve groups, which is also useful if you want to just edit a part of the curve group. Pressure Pipe Creation Workflow Autodesk have made some upgrades to the pressure pipe creation workflow when creating the network ‘by path’. You are now able to toggle on or off the compass that indicates the angles of available joints within the chosen pressure network catalogue. You are also able to toggle on and off the snap which will snap to the angles. In this Civil Engineering Software 2022 release, Autodesk have also included a profile tab with the contextual ribbon when a pressure pipe network that has been created ‘by path’ is selected. This new ribbon includes two commands, one to add network parts to a profile and the second to open up the pipe run profile settings. We are now also able to add spanning labels to pressure pipe networks whereas in previous versions of Civil 3D we could only add these to gravity pipe networks.
ArcGIS Connector: Autodesk’s Civil 3D 2022 version includes the following upgrades to the ArcGIS connector: • Added the ability to configure the resolution for each raster layer to be imported into Civil 3D from ArcGIS or refreshed from ArcGIS. • Added the ability to configure the resolution for the ArcGIS raster layer to be refreshed. • Extended the list of resolution levels for importing ArcGIS raster data from 19 levels to 23 levels. Autodesk Vault 2022 brings some exciting new features, ranging from integration through to replication.
The new installation features will guide you on how to use your online account to quickly install more efficiently and with less confusion. Installation wizards are more informative meaning users will have output that is relatable. Installs and deployments can be adjusted quickly, and administrators can package applications quicker with job role in mind. Designers, engineers, and non-CAD users will all have different applications installed on their machine. Anyone not needing certain applications for daily tasks now don’t need to have these installed on their machines. The Autodesk user ID was introduced as a journey to user profiles. Similar to Microsoft, Autodesk has new introduced the Autodesk ID authentication as the start of a profiled based integration which will give administrators more agility to import user and group information quickly and more efficiently using active directories. Autodesk introduced Models States to Inventor as users long for a configurable world, to create, customise and document things in such a way that allows flexibility with the need to be personal. Parameters and properties can filter through CAD to data management which is related on a single part file bases and not a group of part files. Items can be assigned to incorporate this link and help grow to BOM management using Vault Professional. The ability to turn off the assignment of items can mean better control of this stage. Administrators may not want to allow the assignment of items if they are not part of the company workflow. With replication enhancements administrators can reduce the time invested in certain tasks whilst maintaining a replicated environment. Improvement of reliable and stable replicated environments mean a settled adjustment to replication. Elimination of the need to take object ownerships means users will no longer see issue where files are owned on other sites, replication will perform quicker. General enhancements mean introducing new properties that can be used to stamp data to drawings during state change. Users will have the ability to search for “latest approver” and “latest release date”. Finding duplications can be enhanced inside Inventor to make sure certain criterion are met. The new interface for the Autodesk Vault Thin Client is great with exception viewer and browsing functions, giving users a refreshed and light experience. The thin client is no longer out date and clunky but more responsive, with information that flows through files, items, and change order data. The amazing integration with the Autodesk Forge Viewer means users can quick see what CAD files looks like, measure, explode and take note of all aspects of design. User settings can be manipulated to customer the area, including settings for appearance environments and notification. Autodesk are gearing customers up towards a change in how we create, manipulate, and share our data. |
